Both teams seemed a little rusty after such a long enforced lay-off and it was Oxford who drew first blood with a long-range penalty mid-way through the first half. The strong Oxford pack dominated the set pieces but the Chinnor counter-rucking was suburb and eventually paid dividends and led to the first try. Good work by the Chinnor forwards saw the ball come out to Henry in the centre, where he fixed his man and with a well-timed pass Max was able to show his opposition winger a clean pair of heels to score under the posts. Ollie converted but despite continued pressure Chinnor were unable to add to the lead and went into the break 7 - 3 up.
Oxford came out strongly in the second half and kept up sustained pressure for long periods of time. Oxford had the lion's share of territory and possession throughout the second half but were unable to find a break-through. Chinnor held strong and produced a number of try saving tackles to thwart Oxford and on the few occasions when the pressure was relieved Ollie managed to break away and score our second try. Oxford kept at us and we endured some nervy final moments but held on for the hard fought win.
Plenty to work on for next week's game, particularly converting our chances into tries, but a win is a win.
