We turned up in the rain having been told that the scrums would be uncontested. They turned out to be the only thing that was contested.
From the kick-off Harlequins knocked on, Chinnor won the scrum comfortably, Matt Smith picked up and ran 30 yards through the central Harlequins defence to score. Toby converted. That set the pattern.
Harlequins kicked off, Ben Aston caught well despite the rain, ran 60 yards, passed unselfishly at the last moment to put Charlie Krabbe in under the posts. Thereafter, Harlequins were very dispirited, Chinnor played some fluent rugby with excellent passing, support and rucking despite the weather, and it was all over in twenty minutes.
Matt scored again after a particularly sweet move. More good passing put Nathaniel in at the right hand corner. Ben Aston got the try he deserved for passing to Charlie earlier on, and Toby added the final try. Toby also converted 3 out of the 6 tries to make the final score: 48-0.
Chinnor win the league, so in that sense a wonderful day, one marked with a (brief) display of excellent rugby. But very sad to see Harlequins so down at heel.
