Wycombe establish themselves firmly in the Chinnor half for the starting 15 minutes of the game. Chinns put up an enthusiastic defence, holding ground and avoiding some individual breaks by Wycombe, and also holding up a try. There was some great tackling by Adam C, Reggie and Seb who stood out in the first half, but unfortunately the opposition crashed through to score a try. They capitalized with a great conversion from close to the sideline, which put us on our back foot.
Chinns immediately rose to the occasion by coming back strongly and pushing them back into their own half. Devun in particular made some punishing breaks, tearing through the Wycombe forwards helped by Rory and Chris. James quietly endured a couple of high tackles; one picked up by the ref, but did manage to keep his cool. Trying to run the ball out to Marshy on the wing seemed almost impossible with Wycombe putting up good defense.
Chinns took up position 10 meters off the Wycombe try line, when suddenly Maccy scooped the ball up and scored a heroic diving try. Chinnor failed to convert, hampered by the driving wind and snow. A
great end to the first half.
We started the second half with the weather getting even worse, but looking to benefit from a wind advantage. Wycombe came back thick and fast, scoring two consecutive run away tries. There were some valiant efforts made by Ben Allen, Jake, Toby and Connor, but all to no avail.
Chinnor made some substitutions hoping to freshen up and revitalize the side, but the weather had taken its toll on them. Ally,Toby, Finn and Tom made some great contributions, bolstered up by Jordan and Adam P.
There was some great rucking by Sam P and great strength shown by Ben Allen but it proved difficult to get back into the game. Wycombe came back to score one more try to make it 24-5
Chinnor showed great Spirit and character battling through probably one of the worst playing days they have ever had to endure. Well done guys!
