Last weekend the U15s welcomed Drifters to Kingsey Rd.
On a blustery early Spring morning the Chinnor boys were keen to put in a strong performance following the previous weekend’s loss to Rams.
Mid-week training had focused largely on securing our own ball at ruck and scrum time. Improvement in this area was essential.
Both sides started well and in the early minutes the game ebbed and flowed before Chinnor were able to put sustained pressure on the Drifters tryline which resulted in Fergus G crossing for the opening score.
The match then settled down into a fairly even contest with neither side able to add to the score line for 15 minutes. Eventually Chinnor forced a lineout close to the Drifters line and in the ensuing breakdown Rhys N stole possession and crossed from short range.
Half time 10-0.
The second half saw Drifters cross early on to bring the score to 10-5 but then Chinnor steadily took control with a further two tries. Firstly Connor G touching down following a great outside break, and Troy L finding a space through the midfield to score close to the posts, duly converted by Ewan G.
Credit to Drifters who continued to battle to get back in the game. Their efforts were rewarded with 2 tries towards the end.
The match finished 22-15 which was a fair reflection of the contest.
Special thanks go to Mike @Drifters for stepping in when the arranged ref failed to show due a mix up with the booking system. He enjoyed reffing the first half so much he carried on for the rest of the match, thank god!
