Chinnor Under 15s continued with their excellent start to the season with a resounding 38-19 win against a competitive Aylesbury side. The great depth of squad was illustrated as 30 players travelled to the local derby and each and every one of the boys acquitted themselves with great alacrity and endeavour.
The boys seemed to have mastered their early match demons of sluggish starts from last season and exploded out of the blocks. They immediately showed their intent to play an ambitious and expansive running game with a rapier attack from deep. After excellent breaks from Ed B and Tom C the ball was recycled quickly and smooth handling saw James H release Jake M on the left wing who beat his opposite with a step inside and cruised to the line, 5-0.
The hosts were intent on playing a much more structured, set piece game coupled with many pick and drives from the base. Some indiscipline at the ruck gave them field position to equalise on 10 minutes. Aylesbury then took the lead when they eventually utilised their backs and released their speedy left winger to score a fine try, 5-14. Joe G then entered the fray with a wonderful try saving tackle as he tracked down the full back. He was then unfortunate to be penalised for not releasing as he seemed to have won the jackal fairly. However, this game changing intervention seemed to really lift the boys as they went onto to score the next 26 points without reply. Joe also showed up very well in the lineout with some acrobatic takes.
James H scored a fine sniping try, after a nice run from Danny, diving under the cover to narrow the deficit to 12-14 with George W conversion. The boys then retook the lead just before halftime with a trademark Tom C charge again converted by George W, 19-14.
A completely new team took to the field for the second half and were well aware of the high standard they had to keep. Against the strengthening wind they knew they had to keep the ball in hand and back their skills and fitness, this they did in abundance. A searing show and go outside break and 75 metre run by Joe V was hauled down with a high tackle 2 metres from the line. From the ensuing quick penalty there was no stopping Morgan from short range., 24-14.
Debutants Ryan and Mac were showing well in the forwards with some forceful charges, much to the delight of the travelling crowd. In the backs our other debutants Archie at scrum half had a very tidy game and Freddie B showed some lovely touches in the centre and his kicking was also a big plus. Well done to all four.
The boys were now in rampant form and playing some excellent flowing rugby. Jimmy L scored a thoroughly well deserved try after putting in a fine allround performance. His running from deep and appetite for work were a constant threat as his defence was rock solid as ever. His try was converted by Freddie, 31-14.
Seb and Oscar W harried and tackled all half and did not give the opposition any respite. The boys finished off the scoring with a lovely move direct from the lineout when the looping centres ran a decoy for Nathan to enter the line at pace and scorch over from 50 metres , leaving several defenders in his wake, 38-14.
Another super performance and great to see the massed ranks of the squad setting and keeping a very high standard.
