We played Reading RFC under 15s on 14th September 2014 in bright sunshine on a hot day with a fast dry wide pitch which lead to some great running rugby from both teams
Being an early season fixture we agreed to play 3 sets of 20 minute games with rolling substitutes and the boys on the attached list all got at least 20 minutes of game time. This has been a great strategy to help boys build match fitness and sharpness which is still lacking for some.
The first 20 ended 5-7 to Reading with a great try taken by Rory Pearce following some good inter link play between forwards and backs.
The second 20 ended in 0-10 with Chinnor completely switching off and lacking aggression and speed in lines of defence. Reading showed some great discipline at the breakdown where Chinnor gave away a number of penalties going off their feet, something to work on!
The last 20 will be memorable for various reasons, firstly Jasper Green (a late arrival) ran in two splendid tries, the second of which was a magnificent individual run from 40 meters out but also saw some unsavoury fighting which resulted in three red cards one for Chinnor and two for Reading. This bought the last third to an early end but resulted in Chinnor winning 12 - 5 in the 20.
The overall result ended 17-22 to Reading with a good committed end by the Chinnor boys. I suspect another 20 may well have turned the momentum in Chinnnor's favour as the boys showed some real energy and commitment.
In the words of "Tiny" had the boys been marked in exams the first two 20's may well have been fails due to a lack of attention, attitude and energy but the last 20 would have been a magnificent pass with flying colours!
Reading were indeed excellent hosts and we throughly look forward to our return fixture against them
