Despite cold conditions with a soft pitch underfoot, Chinnor started with the strong intentions of moving the ball through the hands against a big and physical Banbury team who played well.
Quick passing play resulted in the first try coming after only 3 minutes from Davies who went on to convert. 5 minutes later, Rumble went over near the posts following strong interplay amongst the forwards and again Davies add the 2. Pill made it 3 tries after 12 minutes as a result of some strong aggressive running with powerful hand offs. Following an injury to the "exocet" that is Aslett - substitute Mendi immediately scored running half the length the pitch which Davies again converted. The final try of the half came through Pearce, who carried strongly throughout the match and Davies made is 4 conversions from 5. The half ending 33-0 up. The back row three of captain Bailey, Pill and Pearce really were too much to handle for Banbury and all three carried making a high metre count and opening up Banbury's defence with strong running.
The second half saw Chinnor making 10 changes but carrying on much in the same vein as the first. Good catch receipts from Wooster and Golding followed up by strong direct running from both forwards and backs. Intelligent ball distribution by Church and then Wise from 9 and good movement from Thompson all resulted in tries coming from Bailey, Mendi and then two from Browne. Wise, taking over conversions was accurate with 3 from 4 resulting in the final score of 59-7.
To Banbury's credit, the players never gave up and deservedly scored a breakaway try and could possibly have had one more were it not for some aggressive tackling and jackling from the Chinnor players all of whom kept their discipline and structure despite cold hands, muddy conditions and a changing team.
The only blemishes on the game coming from injuries to Aslett, Thompson and a very brave tackle from Matthews resulting in the a trip to A&E which, thankfully proved nothing broken!
The team return to cup duty on Sunday against Oxford Harlequins looking for the completion of a 100% record in the group stages.
