Following a double booked fixture Chinnor under 15s played in a three way tournament playing 2 x 40 minute matches at Tring RFC on a very heavy and muddy 1st team pitch with a strong prevailing wind.
Having watched the first rubber in which Tring won a closely contested match against a weakened Beaconsfield side, Chinnor took to the field with a high pace game, moving the ball well in the hands and intelligently using the wind and width of the pitch. The first try came from Thompson with a clean set piece break and was converted by Nicholls inside the first 2 minutes. The try was then followed by a strong individual run from Bailey playing at openside and again Nicholls added the two points. The short game led to half time being called.
Turning around with the wind at Chinnor's backs, Nicholls controlled the game with some strong field positioned kicking and good distribution and a well worked try from Davies followed. Nicholls again converting. The match then became very scrappy with Tring putting together their best phases of play coming close to scoring several times. Chinnor's defence was excellent and held strong with Pill eventually finishing off a good team move between backs and forwards, closing out the match 26-0 in Chinnor's favour.
The second match against a mixed Beasonsfield team allowed for squad rotation and resulted in a much closer game. Chinnor lending two forwards to the opposition, who interesting were probably the best players in their team! The game closed out with another win for Chinnor 15-10 with tries from Bailey, a bullocking run from Constable and another try for Thompson. Church played very well and created some real space and pressure with his darting runs and would have well deserved a score had it not been for some last ditch tackling.
A good day's rugby and the boys represented the club well!
