Chinnor moved to the top of the U15 A league with a resounding 40-0 win.
Six tries from six different players underlined Chinnor's ability to attack with purpose in all areas of the pitch. Andrew Prosser (1) was first to score with Brandon Allen adding the extras. Jonchuu Turner-Zealey (2) was then quick to react to a loose ball to go over out wide- with Brandon's conversion attempt hitting the upright the score stood at 12-0.
Chinnor withstood sustained Witney pressure in their 22 with well organised and disciplined defence. There were numerous opportunities for Chinnor to have added further scores but handling errors and questionable decision making meant the score remained 12-0 at half time.
Quickly out of the block in the second half the Chinnor forwards went through a series of well worked phases and Bradley Harewood(3) added the third (converted by Brandon). Then Alex MacDonald (4) scored a trade mark try cutting swathes though the Witney defence (again converted by Brandon). Conor Fleming (5) then got in on the act powering over for Brandon to again convert.
Chinnor then rang the changes but kept up the tempo and Bradley Young (6) put the final nail in Witney's coffin bring the official game to an end on 51 mins with Ollie Pell adding the conversion. Wholesale changes followed with the remaining match time being played out as a friendly and Chinnor added further points to their tally but the score of 40-0 is what the record books will show.
It was an excellent improvement and a real team performance that saw the forwards step up by playing a very adept, dymanic and controlled game. The team also demonstrated a far more disciplined and clinical approach with the normal penalty count more than halved.
As is often the case, the score does not reflect the hard work and tough opposition that Witney provided or how well they played! Witney will hopefully bounce back with vengeance in their next league game.
Chinnor, however, need to ensure they build on this performace (without absentee injured captain Tom Alexander and with Can Pope on U16 County duty) if they are to achieve their targets for the season. Henley will be a whole new challenge!
