QUICK-FIRE is a weekly feature designed to introduce all members of our Chinnor RFC Thame family. This week, the spotlight is on Lisa Fincken …

Player or Volunteer?
Volunteer

First season?
2019 (when the girls team formed)

First game?
Wycombe Mini Festival - which was actually their last game before COVID-19.

Why did you decide to volunteer at Chinnor?
My daughter Rune has just absolutely fallen in love with playing rugby. As a family we are very passionate about sport in general and I think having four girls myself made me even more keen to try to help with the growth of the girls team. It’s only been going since last September and I felt it was really important for me to support in any way I could, which in this case was by giving my time and passion!

What is it like volunteering at Chinnor?
It’s great. I have to say in the short time I’ve been here everyone has been so friendly and helpful. Alex Bond is just amazing with helping and leading us all on getting the girls team up and running - we couldn’t have got where we are without him. He took them all to see the Red Roses play and they absolutely loved that. The girls coaches Alice and Ellie are brilliant. They both still play and are young, so they really connect with the girls - I think it’s really important for them to have coaches they can relate to and we are very lucky to have them. With the new women’s team it’s going to be amazing for the girls to have those players as role models. I’m really excited for the future of girls rugby at Chinnor and I’m so happy to be a part of that. It was such a relief that we didn’t lose any players over the lockdown (in fact we’ve gained two). Seeing the girls back at training the past few weeks has been brilliant.

Best memory?
It has to be seeing them all play at Wycombe. The weather was absolutely horrendous and they all just got stuck in and played - the team spirit was amazing. You have to remember that most, if not all, of these girls had only ever played non-contact rugby until they joined Chinnor, so to see them tackle and play hard was brilliant! I was so proud of them all.
