Jammo’s coaching pays immediate dividends as he leads Wildboys and Outlaws to superb start of the season

We catch up with legendary Chinnor fly half and record points scorer to discuss his thoughts about his return to the club and the impact of his coaching team.
The Wildboys had a challenging , transitional season last year but Cathcart’s leadership has has seen an immediate improvement on and off the field as the boys have fully embraced the change of culture . At the level they are now playing it was necessary to bring some structure and coaching in order to improve as players and a team.
“ I have really enjoyed the last couple of months and am very happy with the way the boys have reacted to our new training regime. It’s very exciting to see so many at training every week, we are averaging over 30 which is a great reflection on how much the boys want to learn and improve. After a few of the younger boys left for University we are still getting great numbers and the focus is being shown in our results so far. Both team are unbeaten which is obviously very pleasing but the work ethic remains. I am really enjoying the coaching and they are a great bunch to be involved with” Jammo has managed to call on some of his old mates to help with the coaching team and some have returned to playing as well. “ it’s great to have Wheels back involved , he has such knowledge of the game with special focus on forwards and love for Chinnor which also helps. With Ange and Stodge playing in some games it makes a big difference. I am lucky to have such great experienced leaders like Ludders and Churchy, Ludders is like a fine wine…he just gets better with age and Karl adds to a powerful front row. There’s a great mix of these older guys and some really exciting youngsters. Sam Nichols is still only quite young but brings experience; quality and leadership. Worrying that a few of the younger boys I used to play with their Dads. I told Sam Wright he needs to be as tough as his old man, who used to do a lot my tackling!. The likes of Ben Smith and Toby Cooke have been great and some of the newbies like Dan and Ossian have also really thrived “
“ looking around the club it’s great to see so many familiar faces, Milly coaching the girls; Wheels with us, Trev now Oxen Captain and the likes of Grizza, Gilbert, Stocky, Rix , Frank turning out it’s like the old days..”
“ finally a big thanks to Tom Alexander who has been a massive influence on and off the pitch, part of the GGR twins , he is an outstanding performer and an ever present. Dan and Josh have been a great help and hopefully they see us improving as a coaching team on and off the field. We’ve got some big games to come and are really focused on giving it our best shot”
Nice one Jammo , it’s great to have you back and look forward to your continued success. With a few weeks off for the 1st team we’re sure The Wildboys will enjoy some time in the limelight.
