Chinnor winger is raising money for Michael Sobell Hospice

JOSH Hodson has set himself a golf challenge in aid of a charity close to his heart.

Next Saturday, the Chinnor winger will be aiming to hit a hole-in-one at Rickmansworth Golf Club.

Using one of the club’s spare par three holes, every shot it takes Josh to achieve this mean feat, he will be donating £1 to Michael Sobell Hospice where his mum, who is terminally ill with cancer, is being treated and looked after.

Josh has so far raised £460 towards his target of £12,500 and is hoping the money will help to make a difference to the hospice which is in need of financial help as a result of the pandemic.

“They put on activities for their patients during the week and rely on public donations and volunteers to survive,” he said.

“During these tough times with COVID-19 they have lost up to 80 per cent funding and are struggling to stay open.

“For everything they have done to help my mum and others get through their own personal battles, I feel it is the least I can do to try to keep their doors open.”

A hole-in-one is a rarity for even the best golfers in the world, so how does Josh think he will fare?

He said: “I used to have golf lessons when I was younger.

“Every now and then I would go to the driving range with mates and just see how far we could hit the ball, but nothing too serious.

“I have never hit a hole in one.

“I’ve googled to see what the scientists reckon the chance of me hitting one is and it’s 12,500/1.

“I really hope it doesn’t take that long, but on the other hand that would also be a lot of money to donate to an amazing cause!”
