Eye on the Opposition - Doncaster Knights

John Vaughan6 Dec - 16:10

Chinnor welcome Doncaster Knights for their inaugural visit to Kingsey Road

Doncaster Knights will brave the predicted stormy weather on the long journey down to South Oxfordshire. Their star studded squad are very much on the up after a thumping victory against Cambridge last Saturday. The big spending Knights were certainly one of the pre-season favourites for the title this year after signing some real stellar names to augment an already powerful and proven squad. As they are the only team who currently can achieve promotion to the Premiership because of their excellent home facilities they will very much be focused on that top spot. This early season optimism was boosted with an excellent win away against fellow Championship favourites Ealing Trailfinders. However a couple of shock losses dealt a blow to their league momentum.
The Premiership Cup seems to have come at an excellent time for the Knights as they continued to bed in their new signings. A couple of extremely narrow defeats to Sale Sharks , 37-43, and Newcastle Falcons, 28-31, combined with a big win against Caldy have given them real confidence and form so Chinnor will be in for a huge test against another fulltime outfit.
Knights field a back three which would look right at home in a top 6 Premiership team.
A combination of power and pace mean the visitors are lethal from any part of the pitch. Semesa Rokoduguni scored 71 tries in his n194 appearances for Bath and 4 for England, the electric Jordan Olowofela made 43 appearances for Leicester Tigers and Telusa Veainu made 80 appearances for Tigers and 12 for Tonga.
The Knights also have a very impressive, physical forward pack who back themselves against all comers.
Chinnor's talismanic Captain Willie Ryan enjoyed 2 seasons at Doncaster so will be looking forward to catching up with old friends.
After the disappointment of losing last week in a game that was there for the taking Chinnor will have to re double their efforts to mix it with the high flying Knights. But is matches like this that they battled so hard last year for.
The amazing support last week made a huge difference so if you can please come along tomorrow and roar the boys on! It will only be the usual slight Chinnor breeze....
