Ealing scrum-half stepping up to new role in Senior Squad coaching team

CHINNOR RFC Thame is delighted to announce the appointment of Craig Hampson as Head Coach.

The 30-year-old makes the step up from Attack Coach, after joining the Senior Squad’s coaching team last summer.

Hampson, who plays for Championship side Ealing Trailfinders, has impressed with his coaching style, knowledge and understanding of the game since his arrival at Kingsey Road.

Working alongside our Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe, Forwards Coach, Soane Tonga’uiha and our Performance Department, Craig has played a key role in the development of our squad during a challenging period.

The former Yorkshire Carnegie, Bristol and Wasps scrum-half is now looking forward to stepping up to his new role.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be appointed Head Coach. I arrived last summer with the Attack Coach role in mind and I kind of took over most of the coaching from the start – not on purpose or with any force from myself but it just happened quite naturally. I’ve really enjoyed working with the lads so far - we’ve got a great group with a lot of them living locally. They’re all pretty close and through the difficult times we’ve had they’ve really developed as a group. It’s also been great working with Thorpey, Soane, Matty, Daz and his Performance Department - we’ve got a really strong senior management team with so much experience and we’re all bouncing off each other.”

Chinnor RFC Thame Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe added: “Craig has been an invaluable part of the coaching team this season. Whilst he is still a professional rugby player with Ealing Trailfinders, he is also a very experienced coach. Always bursting with energy, his technical understanding and coaching style immediately impressed on his arrival as Attack Coach last summer. In a season full to the brim of challenges and setbacks, Craig's appointment as Head Coach ensures we have secured a top flight coaching team for next season where we are hopeful to resume competitive league games."
