Chinnor's Outlaws Season Update

Chinnor's Outlaws Season Update

Nick Stainton1 Mar - 10:00

Counties 4 Tribute BBO Central Champions

The 2024/25 league season has been a journey of highs and lows for Chinnor RFC Outlaws, built on commitment and teamwork from the whole squad. The team set the foundation for future success with an undefeated season with maximum points scored.

Pre-Season
The pre-season marked a changing of the guard, welcoming in our new coaches James Cathcart “Jamo” and Tom Wheelan “Wheels”. It is no understatement to say they have benefited the Men’s amateur teams immensely already - creating a renewed sense of structure and enthusiasm throughout both the Wildboys and Outlaws squads this season. With that we’d like to extend our thanks to Jamo’s Wheel’s dedication to supporting both Men’s amateur squads this season.

The main impact to Jamo & Wheels at the helm has been the uptake of numbers at training and availability come game day. Seeing 40+ lads turn out to training on cold, winter Tuesday nights and causing selection headaches at Counties 4 matches has been a fantastic issue to have this season and has played a vital part in the Outlaws undefeated league season.

League Season
The Outlaws kicked off their campaign with a hard-fought 38-24 victory over Littlemore - straight into an impressive 36-14 win against Aylesbury III setting the tone for the season. Despite some match cancellations and walkovers, Outlaws used every game as an opportunity to build on the momentum carried through the season. A standout performance came in the last game of the league season, with a dominant 25-5 victory in the return fixture against Littlemore.

Friendlies
Due to the shake-up in League structure this year, Outlaws sent out the call for friendlies and clubs up and down the county answered. We’d like to extend our thanks to the following teams for providing game-time during breaks in league fixtures or stepping in when league fixtures were unable to be filled:
- Oxford Harlequins III
- Buckingham II
- Abingdon II
- Wycombe III
- Abingdon II
With two fixtures against teams pushing for promotion in higher leagues, the Outlaws took these opportunities to test their abilities, ultimately coming out second best but gaining valuable experience that’ll be crucial going into the post-season playoff games. We are already looking forward to reigniting these rivalries next season.

Up next…
As the League season concludes, the challenges posed by friendlies have been welcomed and the successes in the League have been savoured and celebrated. The togetherness, commitment & structure brought to this side this season has resulted in a group of players raring for more…

On to the post-season play-offs. Round 1. Tadley Tigers. With any luck there’ll still be plenty of rugby to be played for the Outlaws this season yet…can we T(h)ame the Tigers? Come down on Saturday 2:30pm kick off and lend your support.
