An overnight downpour doesn't dampen spirits of the U14s but does leave several areas of standing water on the Beaconsfield pitches. The deluge continues as the lads get fired up to face their first opposition of the morning, Fullerians. From the kick of both sides commit plenty of bodies to secure loose ball. With Chinnors work rate and possession, it seems inevitable that one of the many breaks that from the back line will result in points on the board, but sadly they're unable to capitalise and the game remains scoreless despite crossing the Fullerian's line twice.
The lads take confidence from their performance and despite the continued soaking and many players playing in unfamiliar positions, they march straight into the game against Beaconsfield. Chinnor play the 2nd of the 2 shortened games, up hill. Both teams seem eager to make a lasting first impression on each other and get stuck in from the outset. Chinnors forwards win scrums against the head, perform well at lineouts, and their back line prove hard to stop, but again, the sides are very evenly matched. Both teams do particularly well at the break downs and recycle the ball quickly keeping the game moving at a good pace despite the underfoot squelch. The game ends in a draw with 14 points a piece with Sam Hick scoring both of the Chinnor tries, and Ben Mabley confidently converting. It's a fantastic all round team performance with everyone giving 100%.
Well done lads!
