BEN Manning has been named Chinnor’s club captain ahead of the 2019/20 season.
The experienced back-row forward has made a big impression since joining five years ago and has the natural leadership qualities for the role.
Manning has made more than 100 appearances for Chinnor and was a key member of the side which secured promotion to National League 1 for the first time in the club’s history in 2017/18.
Always leading by example on the pitch, highlighted by two player of the season awards since 2015, he is looking forward to taking on the role.
Manning said: “It’s a real privilege.
“It wasn’t something I was expecting at all, but it’s definitely something I’m quite proud of.
“That and getting 100 caps is up there with my achievements here, as well as promotion into this league.
“It’s definitely exciting, definitely a good role to have, and I’m happy to lead the boys this year.”
Director of rugby Matt Williams added: “It was an obvious appointment for us.
“Ben’s been here as long as I have, he bleeds black and white.
“He’s just a good all-round guy, he fits well into the squad, his camaraderie is brilliant, his character is brilliant, he’s a great player, he just made sense to be club captain.
“He’s someone that the mini and juniors can aspire to be like and he’s someone that everyone wants to be near - he’s just a good guy.”
Chinnor continue their preparations for the new campaign with a fixture at Championship side London Scottish this weekend, before they host Carmarthen Quins in their final and only home friendly on Saturday, August 31.
