CHINNOR RFC Thame is delighted to announce the return of a familiar face with Andy Berry rejoining the Club.
The 29-year-old has become the latest player to sign for our Senior Squad ahead of next month’s fixtures with Rams.
Berry, who came through our youth section and went on to earn an England Counties call-up, returns for a third spell at Kingsey Road, but he will be playing in a different position this time around.
Named as the loosehead prop in our Team of the Decade for the 2010s, many would have previously seen his fantastic skill set, strong carries and turn of pace in a Chinnor jersey and he now plies his trade in the back row.
Berry, whose previous clubs include Old Albanian and Rams, joins from Maidenhead and the forward is thrilled to be back in Thame.
He said: “When I started playing senior rugby at Chinnor, there were a number of senior players who set the standard on and off the pitch. They made it so enjoyable to be associated with the Club, it shaped me and my rugby life for the better. I hope that if I can bring an essence of that, then the talent coming through the Club may get to experience some of the great things I did. This is why I returned to Chinnor, I want to see the Club do well on the pitch but also off it, and I believe Thorpey has similar values.”
Chinnor RFC Thame Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe added: “I am delighted for the Club to announce the return of Andy Berry. He is a player I know well from my time as Head Coach in 2016/17, but of course he was then a loosehead. Now plying his trade as either a No 8 or blindside flanker, he has impressed with his work rate, game understanding and leadership. Welcome home, Bezza!”
