Former Wasps Senior Academy prop signs on at Kingsey Road

CHINNOR RFC Thame are delighted to announce the signing of front-row forward Alex Hunt.

The former Wasps Senior Academy player becomes the second prop to sign in the last fortnight, joining fellow tighthead Ryan Lomas.

At 6ft 2in and 120kg, Hunt further bolsters our pack for the 2020/21 National League 1 season.

Starting in the Worcester Warriors Academy, the prop progressed to the Junior set-up, before moving to Hartpury College where he was picked up by Gloucester Under 18s.

Hunt joined Wasps’ Senior Academy for the 2019/20 season from Coventry University, having been a part of the Extended Senior Academy during his studies.

The 20-year-old from Stourbridge featured three times in Wasps A’s 2018/19 Premiership Rugby Shield campaign, while he made five appearances on loan at our National League 1 counterparts Birmingham Moseley last season.

Hunt said: “I’m really pleased to have signed for Chinnor RFC Thame. The set-up is great, it’s as professional as you can get at this level and that’s in line with how I want to be as a person and as a player. Development-wise, this was a good fit for me and having Soane (Tonga’uiha) at the Club as well is brilliant - that had a massive part to play in my decision.”

Chinnor RFC Thame Director of Rugby, Richard Thorpe added: “Alex is a rugby player with the natural physiology to become a high level prop forward. He is hard working, very determined, and his experience with the Wasps Senior Academy will hold him in good stead amongst our other exciting props Soane Tonga’uiha, Jonas Humbert and Ryan Lomas. I have had Alex in my sights for some time, and I am delighted to have secured him for Chinnor for the 2020/21 season. Whilst he is still a young player who will continue to get stronger, I have no doubt he will be making an impact for us right from the start."

We recently launched our Careers Hub which is designed to help players identify a career path and subsequently find them employment. If you would like further information, please email our Head of Careers, Sam Angell on s.angell@chinnor-rfc.com.
